Letter to the People of Gozo
of H.L. Mgr. Mario Grech
Bishop of Gozo

BLESSING OF THE ROSARY MOSAICS

In the distant past, not all people could read and write. In order to help these persons to get to know the Word of God, the so-called “the Bible of the poor” was created. This was a Bible with pictures that represented scenes from the life of Jesus.

Also, the paintings in churches were not made to decorate them but to help the people of God to know more about the life of the saints. It served as a visual catechesis much before modern means of communication were invented.

Lately, mosaics produced by Centro Aletti of Rome representing the twenty mysteries of the Rosary were installed on the parvis of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Ta’ Pinu. These are more than an artistic work of great beauty because their creator is not just an artist but also a theologian. In fact, these mosaics exhibit a profound concept regarding the mystery of Jesus and Mary of Nazareth.

The purpose of these mosaics is to help us meditate the life events of Jesus while we appreciate more the rosary prayer as a means of following in the steps of Jesus. I think that the project of these mosaics would be successful if, when we pause to appreciate them, we are struck by a desire to pray the rosary. For this reason, I invite you to meet us this evening (tomorrow) in front of the beloved Sanctuary of Ta’ Pinu for the inauguration and blessing of these mosaics.

It is anticipated that Pope Francis will be sending us a video with a message for that occasion.

I take this opportunity to thank those benefactors who offered donations to make it possible for us to set up this monument.

May the Virgin Mary of Ta’ Pinu support us and help us contemplate Jesus with her own gaze of faith, hope and love. (cfr Rosarium Virginis Mariae, 11)

Given from the Bishop’s Curia, today 13th June, remembrance day of St. Anthony of Padua. 

  Bishop of Gozo

INAWGURAZZJONI TAL-MUŻAJK TAR-RUŻARJU MQADDES
FUQ IZ-ZUNTIER TAS-SANTWARJU TAL-MADONNA TA’ PINU,

Saint John Eudes - Salutation to the Blessed Virgin Mary

www.fatima.org/apostolate/vlarchive/pdf/Salutation_to_Mary_Leaflet_2013.pdf

“St. John Eudes recommended this prayer for the conversion of sinners and advised his spiritual children to say it at the bedside of the sick.
The Blessed Virgin promised him that ‘all who say it with devotion, or at least good will, if they are in the state of grace, receive an increase of Divine love in their hearts at each of the salutations or benedictions contained in it; if they are in mortal sin, She will knock at the door of their hearts with Her own sweet virginal hand to urge them to open it to grace.’ And She added that when persons are deep in sin and difficult to convert, it would be well to encourage them to say this salutation, or at least to consent having it said for them.” (Admirable Heart of Mary by St. John Eudes page 329)

Mt 10:26-33 --- Whom to Fear - Tibżgħux minn dawk li joqtlu lill-ġisem.

IN YEAR A - SUNDAY GOSPEL OF WEEK 12 IN ORDINARY TIME.
Evanġelju
Tibżgħux minn dawk li joqtlu lill-ġisem.
Mt 10, 26-33

Qari mill-Evanġelju skont San Mattew

F’dak iż-żmien, Ġesù qal lill-Appostli tiegħu: [Mt:10:26] “La tibżgħux mill-bnedmin. Għax xejn ma hu mgħotti li ma jinkixifx, u xejn ma hu moħbi li ma jsirx magħruf. [Mt:10:27] Dak li jien ngħidilkom fid-dlam għiduh fid-dawl, u dak li ngħidilkom f'widnejkom xandruh minn fuq il-bjut. [Mt:10:28] U tibżgħux minn dawk li joqtlu l-ġisem bla ma jistgħu joqtlu r-ruħ; imma aktar ibżgħu minn dak li jista' jeqred kemm ir-ruħ u kemm il-ġisem fl-infern.

[Mt:10:29] Żewġ għasafar tal-bejt m'hux b'ħabba jinbiegħu? U b'danakollu anqas wieħed minnhom ma jaqa' fl-art mingħajr ir-rieda ta' missierkom. [Mt:10:30] Intom imbagħad sa x-xagħar ta' raskom kollu hu magħdud. [Mt:10:31] Mela xejn la tibżgħu; intom aqwa minn ħafna għasafar tal-bejt. [Mt:10:32] "Kull min jistqarr quddiem il-bnedmin li hu miegħi, jien ukoll nistqarr li jiena miegħu quddiem Missieri li hu fis-smewwiet. [Mt:10:33] Iżda min jiċħad lili quddiem il-bnedmin, jien ukoll niċħad lilu quddiem Missieri li hu fis-smewwiet.

Il-Kelma tal-Mulej
R/. Tifħir lilek Kristu

Pope: still today Christians face trials and persecutions - 25/06/2017
http://en.radiovaticana.va/news/2017/06/25/pope_still_today_christians_face_trials_and_persecutions/1321324
Speaking to the faithful gathered in St. Peter’s Square for the Angelus prayer, the Pope reflected on the liturgical reading of the day in which Jesus said to his disciples “Fear no one” but instructed them and prepared them to face the trials and persecutions the would suffer.
“Jesus’ mission, he said, did not guarantee the disciples success, nor did it shield them from failure or suffering.”
Likewise, the Pope said, Christians must consider the possibility of rejection and persecution: “this is a bit scary, but it is the truth.”
In fact, he explained, the disciple is called to conform his life to Christ, who was persecuted, rejected and abandoned to die on the cross.
“There is no Christian mission in the name of tranquility, the Pope said, difficulties and tribulations are part and package of evangelization” he said.
The Pope also explained that challenges are occasions in which “to verify the authenticity of our faith and of our relationship with Jesus” always within the knowledge that “God does not abandon his children during the storm”.
"In the difficulties of Christian witness in the world, we are never forgotten, but always assisted by the Father's thoughtful solicitude" he said.
Pope Francis also pointed out that even in our day persecution against Christians still exists.
“Let us pray for our brothers and sisters who are persecuted and praise the Lord because, in spite of this, they continue to witness their faith with courage and fidelity” he said.

Another test of faith - Francis continued - may even be the absence of hostility and tribulation.
"In addition to being ‘sheep in the midst of wolves’, the Lord also sends us forth as sentinels in the midst of people who do not want to be awakened from a worldly numbness, who ignore the truth of the Gospel message and build their own ephemeral truth" he said.
Hence, Pope Francis concluded, always heed Jesus’ encouragement not to fear those who mock and abuse, or those who ignore or appear to honor the Gospel but in reality go against it.
"Jesus does not leave us alone because we are precious to Him" he said.
After the recitation of the Angelus prayer, Pope Francis prayed for the victims of a landslide in southwestern China, he greeted the Lithuanian people who on Sunday celebrate the Blessed Theofilius Matulonius – the first Soviet-era Blessed of the nation, and he remembered the faithful of the Greek-Catholic Ukrainian Church who mark the 150th anniversary of the canonization of St. Josaphat.
