Every two years the Faculty of Theology offers a Diploma in the Archival and Cultural Appreciation of Ecclesiastical Patrimony (MQF Level 5) intended to provide students with the elements necessary to interpret the Church’s cultural heritage within the broader con text of significant events and movements in the Mediterranean and European continent.
Rev. Dr Nicholas J. Doublet, member of the Department of Church History, Patrology, and Palæochristian Archaeology and diocesan archivist, is the convenor of an international seminar and public lecture on the Mediterranean and international relations during the pontificate of Pius XII.
To commemorate the opening of the Maltese Diocesan Archive relative to the pontificate of Pope Pius XII (1939-1958) and the episcopate of Mgr Michael Gonzi, a public lecture entitled 'The Holy See and its International Relations during the Pontificate of Pius XII' will be delivered by Rev. Professor Roberto Regoli (Pontificia Universita Gregoriana). This will be accompanied by the inauguration of an exhibition of archival documents entitled 'Forging of a State: The Church-State Relationship in Malta during the Pontificate of Pius XII'.
The event will be followed by an international seminar entitled 'The World is a Sea. Catholics and the Mediterranean during the Pontificate of Pius XII', as part of the wider project OCCIDENTES - Horizons and Projects of Civilization in the Church of Pius XII. Academics from eight different European universities, including two from Malta, will share their views during this day of study. The event is being organised by the Maltese Diocesan Archive in collaboration with the Faculty of Theology at the University of Malta and the Foundation for Theological Studies.
