Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus bury Jesus - John 19:38-42
Id-difna ta' Ġesù
(Mt 27, 57-61 ; Mk 15, 42-47 ; Lq 23, 50-56)
[Ġw:19:38] Wara dan, Ġużeppi minn Arimatija, li kien dixxiplu ta' Ġesù bil-moħbi għax kien jibża' mil-Lhud, mar u talab lil Pilatu biex jieħu l-ġisem ta' Ġesù. Pilatu ħallieh, u hu ġie u ħa l-ġisem tiegħu. [Ġw:19:39] Ġie wkoll Nikodemu, dak li qabel kien mar għand Ġesù billejl, u ġieb miegħu taħlita ta' morr u sabbara, tiżen xi mitt libbra. [Ġw:19:40] Dawn it-tnejn ħadu l-ġisem ta' Ġesù u kebbewh bil-faxex ta' l-għażel bil-fwejjaħ, kif soltu jagħmlu l-Lhud qabel id-difna. [Ġw:19:41] Fejn kienu sallbu lil Ġesù kien hemm ġnien, u f'dan il-ġnien kien hemm qabar ġdid li fih kienu għadhom ma difnu lil ħadd. [Ġw:19:42] Hemm qiegħdu lil Ġesù, għax kien Jum it-Tħejjija għal-Lhud, u għax il-qabar kien fil-qrib.

April 30 - St Pius V, Pope
7 ta' Ottubru -- PAPA PIJU V - IL-BATTALJA TA' LEPANTO U T-TALBA TAR-RUŻARJU
Ħajr lis-Sur Joseph Galea tal-video
30 TA’ APRIL
Tifkira liturġika ta' SAN PIJU V
Papa: 1504 – 1572
Tifkira liturġika ta' SAN PIJU V
Papa: 1504 – 1572
Anton Mikiel Ghislieri, kif kien jismu qabel sar Papa, twieled fl-1504, f’Bosco, fil-Lombardija, l-Italja, f’familja fqira. Fl-1519, meta kellu ħmistax-il sena daħal mad-Dumnikani, u qaddes fl-1528. Għal sittax-il sena għallem it-teoloġija u l-filosofija, sakemm il-Papa Pawlu IV, fl-1556 ħatru Isqof ta’ Sutri, u fl-1557 Kardinal. Imbagħad il-Papa Piju IV li laħaq wara Pawlu IV, poġġieh Isqof ta’ Mondori.
Meta l-Papa Piju IV miet, f’Diċembru ta’ l-1565, il-Kardinal Ghislieri ġie elett Papa fis-7 ta’ Jannar 1566, u ħa l-isem ta’ Piju V. Bil-ħajja qaddisa tiegħu ġab atmosfera ġdida f’Ruma. Wettaq ħafna mir-riformi fil-Knisja, mitluba mill-Konċilju ta’ Trentu (1545-1563). Ippubblika Katekiżmu, Missal u Brevjar ġodda. Irriforma l-mużika u l-liturġija tal-Knisja. Ħadem bla serħan biex jgħaqqad il-mexxejja nsara ta’ l-Ewropa kontra t-theddida tat-Torok. Fl-1570 skomunika lir-Reġina Eliżabetta I ta’ l-Ingilterra, u kiteb lil Mary Stuart fil-ħabs biex ifarraġha.

Malta għandha tassew biex tqisu bħala missier li ħaseb fiha ħafna bl-għajnuna kbira li ta’ lill-Kavallieri speċjalment biex sewwew il-ħerba li ħallew warajhom it-Torok taħt Suleiman II fl-Assedju l-Kbir u biex bnew il-belt Valletta.
Għen ħafna lil Don Juan ta’ l-Awstrija bħala l-Kmandant tal-flotta Nisranija, u waqt li talbu biex ma jeħux miegħu nies ta’ ħajja ħażina, ordna talb pubbliku għas-suċċess tat-taqbida tiegħu kontra t-Torok li ntemmet f’rebħa kbira għall-Insara fil-battalja ta’ Lepanto fis-7 ta’ Ottubru 1571. Fuq din ir-rebħa, il-Papa waqqaf il-festa tar-Rużarju Mqaddes, u żied it-titlu “Għajnuna ta’ l-Insara” fil-Litanija tal-Madonna.

Kien iqatta’ ħafna ħin fit-talb, kien isum ħafna, u jgħaddi mingħajr il-kumditajiet u l-ħela, u kien josserva bir-reqqa ir-Regola bħala patri Dumnikan.
Miet fl-1 ta’ Mejju 1572, u jinsab midfun f’Santa Maria Maggiore, b’monument mill-isbaħ.

April 29 - St Catherine of Siena (1347-1380) Virgin, Doctor of the Church & Co-Patron of Europe
St Catherine of Siena is Co-Patron of Europe together with St Bridget of Sweden, and St Teresa Benedicta of the Cross http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/john_paul_ii/motu_proprio/documents/hf_jp-ii_motu-proprio_01101999_co-patronesses-europe_en.html
SAINT CATHERINE OF SIENA
Virgin and Doctor of the Church
Co patron of Europe - Feast in Europe
(1347-1380)
Catherine, the daughter of a humble tradesman, was raised up to be the guide and guardian of the Church in one of the darkest periods of its history, the fourteenth century. As a child, prayer was her delight. She would say the "Hail Mary" on each step as she mounted the stairs, and was granted in reward a vision of Christ in glory. When but seven years old, she made a vow of virginity, and afterwards endured bitter persecution for refusing to marry. Our Lord gave her his heart in exchange for her own, communicated her with his own hands, and stamped on her body the print of his wounds.
At the age of fifteen she entered the Third Order of St. Dominic, but continued to reside in her father's shop, where she united a life of active charity with the prayer of a contemplative Saint. From this obscure home the seraphic virgin was summoned to defend the Church's cause. Armed with Papal authority, and accompanied by three confessors, she travelled through Italy, reducing rebellious cities to the obedience of the Holy See, and winning hardened souls to God.
In the face well-nigh of the whole world she sought out Gregory XI. at Avignon, brought him back to Rome, and by her letters to the kings and queens of Europe made good the Papal cause. She was the counsellor of Urban VI., and sternly rebuked the disloyal cardinals who had part in electing an antipope. Long had the holy virgin foretold the terrible schism which began ere she died.
Day and night she wept and prayed for unity and peace. But the devil excited the Roman people against the Pope, so that some sought the life cf Christ's Vicar. With intense earnestness did St. Catherine beg our Lord to prevent this enormous crime. In spirit she saw the whole city full of demons tempting the people to resist and even slay the Pope. The seditious temper was subdued by Catherine's prayers; but the devils vented their malice by scourging the Saint herself, who gladly endured all for God and his Church.
She died at Rome, in 1380, at the age of thirty-three.

A Living Sacrifice
Saint Catherine of Siena, T.O.S.D. (25 March 1347 in Siena – 29 April 1380 in Rome), was a tertiary of the Dominican Order and a Scholastic philosopher and theologian. She also worked to bring the papacy of Gregory XI back to Rome from its displacement in France and to establish peace among the Italian city-states... Prayer of Thanksgiving to the Trinity (St. Catherine of Siena)
I TASTED AND I SAW - A prayer to the Blessed Trinity. From a dialogue On Divine Providence by St Catherine of Siena (1347-1380)
Eternal God, Eternal Trinity, you have made the blood of Christ so precious through his sharing in your divine nature. You are a mystery as deep as the sea; the more I search, the more I find, and the more I find, the more I search for you. But I can never be satisfied; what I receive will ever leave me desiring more. When you fill my soul I have an even greater hunger, and I grow more famished for your light. I desire above all to see you, the true light, as you really are.
I have tasted and seen the depth of your mystery and the beauty of your creation with the light of my understanding. I have clothed myself with your likeness and have seen what I shall be.
Eternal Father, you have given me a share in your power and the wisdom that Christ claims as his own, and your Holy Spirit has given me the desire to love you. You are my Creator, eternal Trinity, and I am your creature. You have made of me a new creation in the blood of your Son, and I know that you are moved with love at the beauty of your creation, for you have enlightened me.
Eternal Trinity, Godhead, Mystery deep as the sea, you could give me no greater gift than the gift of yourself. For you are a fire ever burning and never consumed, which itself consumes all the selfish love that fills my being. Yes, you are a fire that takes away the coldness, illuminates the mind with its light and causes me to know your truth. By this light, reflected as it were in a mirror, I recognize that you are the highest good, one we can neither comprehend nor fathom. And I know that you are beauty and wisdom itself. The food of angels, you gave yourself to man in the fire of your love.
You are the garment which covers our nakedness, and in our hunger you are a satisfying food, for you are sweetness and in you there is no taste of bitterness, O triune God!”

Proper Gospel for the Feast of St Catherine of Siena - Matthew 11:25-30
Evanġelju
Int ħbejt dawn il-ħwejjeġ lil min hu għaref, u għarrafthom liċ-ċkejknin. Mt 11, 25-30
Qari mill-Evanġelju skont San Mattew
[Mt:11:25] F'dak iż-żmien Ġesù qabad u qal: “Infaħħrek, Missier, Sid is-sema u l-art, talli inti, dawn il-ħwejjeġ, ħbejthom lil min hu għaref u lil min jifhem, u għarrafthom lil min hu ċkejken. [Mt:11:26] Iva, Missier, għax hekk għoġob lir-rieda tiegħek. [Mt:11:27] "Kollox kien mogħti lili minn Missieri, u ħadd ma jagħraf lill-Iben ħlief il-Missier, kif ħadd ma jagħraf lill-Missier ħlief l-Iben u dak li l-Iben irid jgħarrafhulu.
[Mt:11:28] "Ejjew għandi, intom ilkoll li tinsabu mħabbtin u mtaqqlin, u jiena nserraħkom. [Mt:11:29] Ħudu fuqkom il-madmad tiegħi u tgħallmu minni, għaliex jiena ta' qalb ħelwa u umli, u intom issibu l-mistrieħ għal ruħkom. [Mt:11:30] Għax il-madmad tiegħi ħelu u t-toqol tiegħi ħafif."

Festa ta' Santa Katerina ta’ Siena
Verġni u Duttur tal-Knisja
1347-1380
“Iftaħli l-bieb, oħti: miegħi int werrieta tas-saltna tiegħi, u għax inti għaraft il-misteri tal-verità tiegħi, inti l-ħabiba tiegħi, imżejna bid-doni tal-Ispirtu tiegħi, u msaffija minn kull tebgħa bit-tixrid ta’ Demmi. Ħalli s-skiet u l-ġabra tal-kontemplazzjoni u oħroġ tqabad b’qawwa u ħeġġa biex tagħti xhieda tal-verità tiegħi.” – Antifona mil-Liturġija tas-Sigħat tal-Festa ta’ Santa Katerina ta’ Siena.
Tagħrif:
Katerina Benincasa, hija waħda mill-akbar nisa li qatt rat id-dinja. Hija twieldet fi Siena, fl-Italja, fl-1347. Kienet l-iżgħar fost il-25 ulied ta’ żebbiegħ minn Siena, fit-Toskana (l-Italja Ċentrali) u twieldet nhar l-Annunzjazzjoni, fil-25 ta’ Marzu, 1347.
Minkejja li ħajruha għaż-żwieġ, kienet għal kollox deċiża li ma tridx tiżżewweġ. Ta’ tmintax-il sena, ikkonsagrat lilha nnifisha ‘l Alla, u daħlet Terzjarja Dumnikana, u mal-ħajja kontemplattiva ta’ meditazzjoni u talb, bdiet ħajja l-aktar attiva, billi bdiet tmur fl-isptarijiet iddur bil-morda, u bix-xjuħ u tgħin lil kull min setgħet. Kienet tmur ukoll fil-ħabsijiet, u tkellem speċjalment lil dawk li kienu jkunu kkundannati għall-mewt.
Fl-epidemija tal-pesta, fl-1374, kienet tieħu ħsieb lil dawk li kienu jimirdu, iddur bihom u tgħinhom, u ġieli anke difnithom hi stess meta mietu.
Ħadmet u għenet ħafna l-Knisja meta kienet għaddejja minn wieħed miż-żminijiet tqal tagħha. Ġabret madwarha bosta dixxipli, il-“Katerinati” li kienu jgħinuha fil-ħidma kbira tagħha biex ikkonvertiet tant midinbin, u tat l-aqwa għajnuna lil dawk fil-bżonn.
Kellha devozzjoni kbira lejn l-Ewkaristija. Bħal San Franġisk t’Assisi, irċeviet l-istigmati jew il-pjagi, imma mingħajr ma jidhru bil-għajnejn, fil-knisja ta’ Santa Kristina ta’ Pisa, fl-1375. Ħadmet biex tikseb il-paċi bejn belt u oħra, biex tħeġġeġ l-insara għall-Kruċjata fl-Art Imqaddsa mnidija mill-Papa Girgor XI, iddefendiet lill-Papa ġewwa Siena, Lucca u Pisa, u marret Avignon għand il-Papa Girgor fl-1376, biex turih li bħala Papa, is-sede tiegħu kienet Ruma.
Il-Papiet (li kienu Franċiżi) kienu ilhom Avignon 74 sena, imma għall-kelma ta’ Katerina, Girgor XI irritorna Ruma fis-17 ta’ Jannar, 1377. Imma Girgor miet fl-1378, u meta floku laħaq Urbanu VI, kien hemm xi kardinali li dehrilhom li dik il-għażla kienet illegali, u malajr inħatar “Papa” ieħor.
Dan ġab il-firda fost il-Kattoliċi, li tissejjaħ ix-“Xiżma tal-Punent”, u li ntemmet biss wara 39 sena bl-elezzjoni ta’ Martinu V fl-1417. Katerina ħadmet bis-sħiħ flimkien ma’ Santa Katerina tal-Isvezja (ara Santa Katerina tal-Isvezja), li ltaqgħet magħha Ruma, u ma’ oħrajn, biex tiddefendi l-veru Papa (Urbanu VI) u ssalva l-unjoni fil-Knisja.
Imma ma damitx ma mietet. Tliet xhur qabel mietet, mardet u sofriet ħafna. Ħalliet difatti din id-dinja ġewwa Ruma fid-29 ta’ April, 1380, ta’ 33 sena. Ħalliet, anki bl-approvazzjoni tal-konfessur tagħha, il-Beatu Rajmondu minn Capua, Ġeneral tad-Dumnikani, il-ktieb famuż: id-“Djalogu ta’ Santa Katerina,” kitba mistika mill-aqwa.
Il-Papa Piju II (li kien ukoll minn Siena) ikkanonizzaha fl-1461, il-Papa Piju XII ħatarha Patruna tal-Italja (flimkien ma’ San Franġisk t’Assisi) fl-1939, waqt li l-Papa San Pawlu VI ddikjaraha duttur tal-Knisja (flimkien ma’ Santa Tereża ta’ Avila) fl-1970. Il-Papa San Ġwanni Pawlu II ddikjaraha ko-patruna tal-Ewropa.
Kontemplattiva f’ħajja ta’ attività kbira. Għalhekk hija rnexxielha tgħaqqad il-ħajja interjuri tat-talb mal-ħajja attiva ta’ għajnuna għall-oħrajn. Hekk kitbet, “Ftakar li kull wieħed għandu għalqa għalih magħquda ma’ dik tal-proxxmu bla ebda ħajt bejniethom li jifridhom minn xulxin; tant huma ħaġa waħda li ħadd ma jista’ jagħmel il-ġid jew id-deni lilu nnifsu bla ma fl-istess ħin jagħmlu wkoll lill-proxxmu” (Djalogu 24).
Lejn it-tmiem tad-Djalogu tagħha hija tesprimi l-għaqda mistika tagħha m’Alla, “Divinità eterna, int abiss, int baħar bla qiegħ! Int tajtni lilek innifsek: xi stajt tagħtini iżjed.” (n. 167) Santa Katerina kitbet ukoll madwar erba’ mitt ittra lill-Papiet, mexxejja ta’ pajjiżi u nies prominenti, li juru l-fond tal-ispiritwalità u tal-għerf tagħha; u kitbiet oħrajn.
Ħsieb: Ta’ min inkomplu nsemmu aktar dettalji dwar il-ħajja rikka ta’ din il-qaddisa tal-lum. Imsemmija għal Santa Katerina ta’ Lixandra (ara Santa Katerina ta’ Lixandra), kienet tifla ta’ intelliġenza u ta’ maturità ‘l fuq minn normal. Sa minn ċkunitha kienet tidher miġbuda ħafna lejn Alla u kienet tfittex il-ġabra għat-talb. Ħajjitha kollha kienet tagħmel penitenzi kbar speċjalment fl-ikel u fl-irqad. Tiekol u torqod mill-inqas u silenzju strett. Tifla ċkejkna kienet tiġbor it-tfal tamparha u tkellimhom fuq Ġesù.
Fl-età ċkejkna ta’ sitt snin kellha esperjenza mistika tixbah ħafna lil dik ta’ Santa Katerina ta’ Lixandra u li ħalliet il-marka tagħha fuq il-kumplament ta’ ħajjitha. Minn wara l-kampnar tal-knisja ta’ San Duminku fi Siena lemħet lil Ġesù fil-glorja li ħassitu jgħidilha tkun l-għarusa tiegħu, stedina li Katerina aċċettat bil-ferħa. Fis-skiet ta’ kamritha kienet tinġabar fit-talb, titkellem ma’ Ġesù. L-ikbar turment tagħha kien meta kienet tħoss lil Ġesù tant il-bogħod. Fil-fatt meta darba dehrilha lmentat miegħu u qaltlu:
‘Fejn kont Sinjur? Kemm fittixtek għalxejn!
Ġesù weġibha: ‘Kont f’qalbek nitgħaxxaq bik narak tiġri warajja!’
Ta’ 20 sena kellha dehra mistika oħra li tikkonferma dik id-dehra ta’ meta kellha sitt snin. Din id-darba dehrilha Ġesù Redentur, fil-kumpanija tal-Madonna, ta’ San Ġwann, ta’ San Pawl u ta’ San Duminku, ilibbisha simbolikament iċ-ċurkett tat-tieġ, sinjal taż-żwieġ mistiku tagħha miegħu. F’din id-dehra mistika Ġesù talab lil Katerina toħroġ mill-ġabra ta’ kamritha u taqsam mal-bnedmin l-imħabba kbira li kellha lejh.
Bil-ħeġġa kollha Katerina ngħatat għall-appostolat tal-Kelma. Mijiet kbar ta’ nies minn kullimkien kienu jfittxuha għall-Kelma u għall-parir tagħha, u grazzi lilha ħafna bnedmin reġgħu daru lejn Alla.
F’ħajjitha Katerina kellha diversi dehriet mistiċi. Spiss kienet tidħol f’estasi. Insemmu dik ta’ quddiem il-kurċifiss ġewwa l-Knisja ta’ Santa Kristina nhar l-1 t’April, 1375 meta rċeviet il-pjagi. Fuq talba tagħha stess ma kienux jidhru minn barra imma hi kienet tarahom u kienet tħoss weġgħat tassew kbar.
F’waħda mill-ittri tagħha ssemmi l-każ ta’ ċertu Niccolo di Toldo, aristokratiku peruġin, li kien arrestat u kkundannat għall-mewt għax kien tkellem kontra l-gvern ta’ Siena. Siena u Perugia dak iż-żmien kienu fi gwerra bejniethom. Katerina marret iżżuru fil-ħabs. Sabitu ddisprat u bl-ebda mod ma ried iħejji ruħu għall-mewt anzi b’dagħa offensiv kien jilqa’ lil kull qassis li kien jipprova jersaq lejh. Imżejna bid-doni tal-persważjoni u tal-ħlewwa, Katerina rnexxielha tikkalmah u tippreparah għall-mewt. Qaltlu: ‘Tfarraġ ħija għażiż, dalwaqt tasallek il-festa tat-tieġ. Int se tmur maħsul bid-demm tal-Iben t’Alla, fl-isem ħelu ta’ Ġesù, li ma nixtieqek qatt tinsa. Jiena nkun hemm fil-post tal-eżekuzzjoni, nistenniek.’ U hemm kienet tassew Katerina kif wegħditu u talbet għalih hi u tarah imut.
Minn dawn ir-rakkonti kollha nagħrfu li Santa Katerina hija mudell ta’ dedikazzjoni fil-kuraġġ u fl-umiltà. Il-kitbiet tagħha jolqtu l-Misteri fundamentali tal-Fidi tagħna: it-Trinità, l-Inkarnazzjoni u r-Redenzjoni. L-Imħabba tagħha għall-verità tgħinna biex nitgħallmu nagħżlu s-sewwa mill-gidba fil-ħajja tagħna ta’ kuljum.
Katerina kienet tfittex u ssib lil Alla dejjem u kullimkien, u kienet tingħaqad miegħu tassew minn qalbha b’rabta ta’ mħabba. (Ant. Tal-kant. Ta’ Marija prop.) U int?
Talba: O Alla, int ħeġġiġt bl-imħabba tas-sema lill-verġni Santa Katerina ta’ Siena fil-kontemplazzjoni tal-passjoni tal-Mulej u fis-servizz li tat lill-Knisja tiegħek: agħmel, bit-talb tagħha, li l-poplu tiegħek, miġbur xirka waħda fil-misteru tal-Ġisem mistiku jikseb ferħ għal dejjem fid-dehra tal-glorja ta’ Ibnek Ġesù Kristu Sidna. Ammen. (Talba mil-Liturġija tas-Sigħat)

Monday, 2nd week of Easter --- Jn 3:1-8 -- Jesus Teaches Nicodemus - Ġesù u Nikodemu
Monday, 2nd week of Easter
3. Ġesù u Nikodemu
[Ġw:3:1] Kien hemm fost il-Fariżej raġel jismu Nikodemu, wieħed mill-kbarat tal-Lhud. [Ġw:3:2] Dan ġie għand Ġesù billejl u qallu: "Rabbi, aħna nafu li inti Mgħallem mibgħut minn Alla; għax ħadd ma jista' jagħmel is-sinjali li qiegħed tagħmel int jekk ma jkunx Alla miegħu." [Ġw:3:3] Ġesù wieġbu: "Tassew tassew ngħidlek li jekk wieħed ma jitwelidx mill-ġdid, ma jistax jara s-Saltna ta' Alla."
[Ġw:3:4] Qallu Nikodemu: "Kif jista' wieħed jitwieled wara li jkun xjieħ? Jista' forsi jerġa' jidħol f'ġuf ommu u jitwieled?" [Ġw:3:5] Wieġbu Ġesù: "Tassew tassew ngħidlek, li jekk wieħed ma jitwelidx mill-ilma u l-Ispirtu, ma jistax jidħol fis-Saltna ta' Alla. [Ġw:3:6] Dak li jitwieled mill-ġisem hu ġisem; u dak li jitwieled mill-Ispirtu hu spirtu. [Ġw:3:7] La tistagħġibx jekk jiena għedtlek li jeħtiġilkom titwieldu mill-ġdid. [Ġw:3:8] Ir-riħ fejn irid jonfoħ; tisma' ħossu, imma ma tafx mnejn hu ġej jew fejn hu sejjer. Hekk jiġri minn kull min jitwieled mill-Ispirtu."

HE IS GOD - enjoy the background music
He Is God
He is the First and Last,
The Beginning and the End!
The Beginning and the End!
He is the keeper of Creation and the Creator of all!
He is the Architect of the universe and the Manager of all times.
He always was, He always is, and He always will be ...
unmoved, Unchanged, Undefeated, and never Undone!
He is the Architect of the universe and the Manager of all times.
He always was, He always is, and He always will be ...
unmoved, Unchanged, Undefeated, and never Undone!
He was bruised and brought healing!
He was pierced and eased pain!
He was persecuted and brought freedom!
He was dead and brought life!
He is risen and brings power!
He reigns and brings Peace!
The world can't understand him,
The armies can't defeat Him,
The schools can't explain Him, and The leaders can't ignore Him.
Herod couldn't kill Him, The Pharisees couldn't confuse Him, and The people couldn't hold Him!
Nero couldn't crush Him, Hitler couldn't silence Him,
The New Age can't replace Him, and "Oprah" can't explain Him away!

His ways are right,

I serve Him because His bond is love,
His burden is light, and His goal for me is abundant life.
His burden is light, and His goal for me is abundant life.
I follow Him because He is the wisdom of the wise,
the power of the powerful,
the ancient of days, the ruler of rulers, the leader of leaders, the overseer of the overcomers, and is to come. And if that seems impressive to you, try this for size.

EASTER TUESDAY - Jn 20:11-18 -- Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene - Ġesù jidher lil Marija ta' Magdala
Ġesù jidher lil Marija ta' Magdala
(Mk 16, 9-11)
[Ġw:20:11] Iżda Marija baqgħet 'il barra mill-qabar, tibki. Kif kienet qiegħda tibki, tbaxxiet lejn il-qabar, [Ġw:20:12] u rat żewġ anġli lebsin l-abjad, bilqiegħda, wieħed in-naħa tar-ras u l-ieħor in-naħa tar-riġlejn fejn kienu qiegħdu l-ġisem ta' Ġesù. [Ġw:20:13] Huma qalulha: "Mara, għalfejn qiegħda tibki?" Hi wieġbet: "Għax ħadu lil Sidi, u ma nafux fejn qegħduh." [Ġw:20:14] Kif qalet hekk, daret lura u rat lil Ġesù wieqaf, iżda ma ntebħitx li kien Ġesù. [Ġw:20:15] Ġesù qalilha: "Mara, għalfejn qiegħda tibki? Lil min qiegħda tfittex?" Hi ħasbet li kien il-ġardinar, u qaltlu: "Sinjur, jekk ħadtu int minn hawn, għidli fejn qegħedtu, u jiena nġibu lura." [Ġw:20:16] Ġesù sejjħilha: "Marjam!" Hi daret u qaltlu bil-Lhudi: 'Rabbuni!' jiġifieri Mgħallem. [Ġw:20:17] Ġesù qalilha: "La tmissnix, għax għadni ma tlajtx għand il-Missier; imma mur għand ħuti u għidilhom li se nitla' għand Missieri u Missierkom, Alla tiegħi u Alla tagħkom." [Ġw:20:18] Marija ta' Magdala marret għand id-dixxipli u tathom l-aħbar: "Rajt lill-Mulej", u qaltilhom x'qalilha.

Atti 10, 34a.37-43
Qari mill-Ktieb
tal-Atti tal-Appostli
F’dak iż-żmien,
Pietru qabad jitkellem u qal: “Intom tafu b’dak li
ġara mal-Lhudija kollha, ibda mill-Galilija, wara li Ġwanni kien xandar
il-magħmudija; tafu kif Alla kkonsagra lil Ġesù ta’ Nazaret bl-Ispirtu s-Santu
u bil-qawwa, u kif dan Ġesù għadda jagħmel il-ġid u jfejjaq lil dawk kollha li
kienu maħkuma mix-xitan, għax Alla kien miegħu. U aħna xhud ta’ dak kollu li hu
għamel fl-art tal-Lhudija u f’Ġerusalemm. Tawh il-mewt billi dendluh mal-għuda
tas-salib; imma Alla qajmu mill-imwiet fit-tielet jum u għamel li hu jidher,
mhux lil kulħadd, imma lix-xhieda li Alla għażel minn qabel, lilna, li miegħu
kilna u xrobna wara l-qawmien tiegħu mill-imwiet.
Lilna ordnalna biex
inxandruh lill-poplu u nixhdu li dan hu dak li Alla għamlu mħallef tal-ħajjin u
tal-mejtin. Il-profeti kollha jixhdu għalih u jgħidu li kull min jemmen fih
jaqla’ l-maħfra tad-dnubiet bis-saħħa ta’ ismu”.

Ġw 20, 1-9
Qari mill-Evanġelju
skont San Ġwann
Kien l-ewwel jum
tal-ġimgħa, filgħodu kmieni kif kien għadu d-dlam, u Marija ta’ Magdala ġiet
ħdejn il-qabar u rat il-blata mneħħija mill-qabar. Għalhekk telqet tiġri għand
Xmun Pietru u għand id-dixxiplu l-ieħor li kien iħobb Ġesù, u qaltilhom:
“Qalgħu lill-Mulej mill-qabar, u ma nafux fejn qegħduh!”.
Pietru u d-dixxiplu
l-ieħor ħarġu u ġew ħdejn il-qabar. It-tnejn ġrew flimkien, imma d-dixxiplu
l-ieħor ħaffef aktar minn Pietru u laħaq qablu ħdejn il-qabar. Tbaxxa, u ra
l-faxex tal-għażel imqiegħda hemm, iżda ma daħalx. Imbagħad wasal warajh Xmun
Pietru, daħal fil-qabar, u ra l-faxex tal-għażel imqiegħda hemm, u l-maktur li
kien madwar rasu; dan ma kienx mal-faxex, imma mitwi u mqiegħed f’post għalih.
Imbagħad id-dixxiplu l-ieħor, li kien wasal l-ewwel ħdejn il-qabar, daħal hu
wkoll, ra, u emmen.
Sa dakinhar kienu
għadhom ma fehmux l-Iskrittura li tgħid li kellu jqum mill-imwiet.

Evanġelju
Qam mill-Imwiet, u
sejjer il-Galilija qabilkom.
Mt 28, 1-10
Qari mill-Evanġelju
skond San Mattew
Meta għadda s-Sibt,
maż-żerniq tal-ewwel jum tal-ġimgħa, Marija ta’ Magdala u Marija l-oħra marru
jaraw il-qabar. U ara, inħasset theżhiża kbira għax niżel anġlu tal-Mulej
mis-sema, u resaq igerbeb il-ġebla u qagħad bilqiegħda fuqha. Id-dehra tiegħu
kienet bħal berqa; ilbiesu abjad bħas-silġ. Bil-biża’ tiegħu l-għassiesa
qabdithom rogħda u saru qishom mejtin. Iżda l-anġlu qabad u qal lin-nisa:
“Tibżgħu xejn intom għax jiena naf li qegħdin tfittxu lil Ġesù li kien
imsallab. Mhuwiex hawn, għaliex qam, kif kien qal. Ejjew araw il-post fejn kien
qiegħed. U morru malajr għidu lid-dixxipli tiegħu: “Qam mill-imwiet. U araw,
huwa sejjer il-Galilija qabilkom: tarawh hemmhekk”. Araw, għedthulkom”.
Dawk telqu malajr
minn ħdejn il-qabar, kollhom biża’ u ferħ kbir, u marru jiġru jagħtu l-aħbar
lid-dixxipli tiegħu. U ara, iltaqa’ magħhom Ġesù u qalilhom: “Is-sliem
għalikom”. Huma resqu lejh, qabdulu riġlejh u nxteħtu quddiemu. Imbagħad Ġesù
qalilhom: “Tibżgħu xejn; morru wasslu l-aħbar lil ħuti biex jitilqu lejn
il-Galilija; lili jarawni hemmhekk”.

Fil-Quddiesa ta’
filgħaxija jista’ jinqara l-Evanġelju li ġej
Evanġelju
Ibqa’ magħna, għax
issa sar ħafna ħin.
Lq 24, 13-35
Qari mill-Evanġelju
skont San Luqa
Dakinhar stess,
fl-ewwel jum tal-ġimgħa, ġara li tnejn mid-dixxipli kienu sejrin lejn raħal
jismu Għemmaws, xi sittin stadju bogħod minn Ġerusalemm, jitħaddtu bejniethom
fuq kulma kien ġara. Huma u jitħaddtu u jitkixxfu bejniethom, Ġesù nnifsu resaq
lejhom u baqa’ miexi magħhom. Imma għajnejhom kellhom xi jżommhom u ma setgħux
jagħrfuh. U hu qalilhom: “X’intom tgħidu bejnietkom intom u miexja?”. U huma waqfu, b’ħarsa ta’ niket fuq wiċċhom.
Imbagħad wieħed minnhom, jismu Kleofa, wieġeb u qallu: “Inti waħdek il-barrani
f’Ġerusalemm li ma tafx x’ġara hemmhekk f’dawn il-jiem?”.
“X’ġara?”, staqsiehom Ġesù. Qalulu: “Dak li ġara lil Ġesù ta’
Nazaret, li kien profeta setgħan fl-għemil u fil-kliem quddiem Alla u quddiem
il-poplu kollu, kif il-qassisin il-kbar u l-kapijiet tagħna tawh f’idejn
il-gvernatur biex ikun ikkundannat għall-mewt u sallbuh. Aħna konna nittamaw li
hu kien dak li kellu jifdi lil Iżrael; iżda issa, fuq kollox ġa għaddew tlitt
ijiem minn dawn il-ġrajja! Issa wkoll xi wħud min-nisa tagħna ħasduna, għax
marru kmieni ħdejn il-qabar u l-katavru tiegħu ma sabuhx; ġew jgħidu wkoll li
dehrulhom xi anġli li qalulhom li hu ħaj. Imbagħad marru ħdejn il-qabar xi wħud
minn tagħna u sabu kollox kif kienu qalu n-nisa, imma lilu ma rawhx!”.
Qalilhom Ġesù: “Kemm
intom boloh u tqal biex temmnu kulma qalu l-profeti! U ma kellux il-Messija
jbati dan kollu u hekk jidħol fil-glorja tiegħu?”. U beda minn Mosè u
l-profeti kollha jfissrilhom kulma kien hemm fl-Iskrittura fuqu.
Meta qorbu lejn
ir-raħal fejn kienu sejrin hu għamel tabirruħu li kien se jibqa’ sejjer aktar
’il bogħod. Iżda huma ġegħluh jibqa’ magħhom u qalulu: “Ibqa’ magħna, għax issa
sar ħafna ħin u l-jum ġa wasal biex jintemm”. Imbagħad daħal biex joqgħod
magħhom. U waqt li kien fuq il-mejda magħhom, qabad il-ħobż, qal il-barka,
qasmu u tahulhom. Imbagħad infetħulhom għajnejhom u għarfuh, iżda hu għab minn
quddiemhom. U wieħed lill-ieħor bdew jgħidu: “Ma kinitx imkebbsa qalbna ġewwa
fina huwa u jkellimna fit-triq u jfissrilna l-Iskrittura?”.
Dak il-ħin stess qamu
u reġgħu lura Ġerusalemm. Hemm sabu lill-Ħdax u lil sħabhom miġbura flimkien, u
dawn qalulhom: “Il-Mulej qam tassew, u deher lil Xmun!”. U huma wkoll
tarrfulhom x’kien ġralhom fit-triq, u kif kienu għarfuh fil-qsim tal-ħobż.

Did Jesus visit his Mother first on Easter morning? Here’s why JPII said “probably so”
https://aleteia.org/2018/04/01/did-jesus-visit-his-mother-first-on-easter-morning-heres-why-jpii-said-probably-so/
This belief was reflected upon by Pope John Paul II at the general audience of May 21, 1997.
We offer you his reflection to enjoy today - Easter Sunday - (emphases in bold are our own):
~
1. After Jesus had been laid in the tomb, Mary “alone remains to keep alive the flame of faith, preparing to receive the joyful and astonishing announcement of the Resurrection” (Address at the General Audience, 3 April 1996; L’Osservatore Romano English edition, 10 April 1996, p. 7). The expectation felt on Holy Saturday is one of the loftiest moments of faith for the Mother of the Lord: in the darkness that envelops the world, she entrusts herself fully to the God of life, and thinking back to the words of her Son, she hopes in the fulfilment of the divine promises.
The Gospels mention various appearances of the risen Christ, but not a meeting between Jesus and his Mother. This silence must not lead to the conclusion that after the Resurrection Christ did not appear to Mary; rather it invites us to seek the reasons why the Evangelists made such a choice.
On the supposition of an “omission,” this silence could be attributed to the fact that what is necessary for our saving knowledge was entrusted to the word of those “chosen by God as witnesses” (Acts 10:41), that is, the Apostles, who gave their testimony of the Lord Jesus’ Resurrection “with great power” (cf. Acts 4:33). Before appearing to them, the Risen One had appeared to several faithful women because of their ecclesial function: “Go and tell my brethren to go to Galilee, and there they will see me” (Mt 28:10).
If the authors of the New Testament do not speak of the Mother’s encounter with her risen Son, this can perhaps be attributed to the fact that such a witness would have been considered too biased by those who denied the Lord’s Resurrection, and therefore not worthy of belief.
2. Furthermore, the Gospels report a small number of appearances by the risen Jesus and certainly not a complete summary of all that happened during the 40 days after Easter. St Paul recalls that he appeared “to more than 500 brethren at one time” (1 Cor 15:6). How do we explain the fact that an exceptional event known to so many is not mentioned by the Evangelists? It is an obvious sign that other appearances of the Risen One were not recorded, although they were among the well-known events that occurred.
How could the Blessed Virgin, present in the first community of disciples (cf. Acts 1:14), be excluded from those who met her divine Son after he had risen from the dead?
Indeed, the Risen One entrusts to one of them, Mary Magdalene, the message to be passed on to the Apostles (cf. Jn 20:17-18). Perhaps this fact too allows us to think that Jesus showed himself first to his Mother, who had been the most faithful and had kept her faith intact when put to the test.
Lastly, the unique and special character of the Blessed Virgin’s presence at Calvary and her perfect union with the Son in his suffering on the Cross seem to postulate a very particular sharing on her part in the mystery of the Resurrection.
A fifth-century author, Sedulius, maintains that in the splendor of his risen life Christ first showed himself to his mother. In fact, she, who at the Annunciation was the way he entered the world, was called to spread the marvelous news of the Resurrection in order to become the herald of his glorious coming. Thus bathed in the glory of the Risen One, she anticipates the Church’s splendor cf. Sedulius, Paschale carmen, 5, 357-364, CSEL 10, 140f).
4. It seems reasonable to think that Mary, as the image and model of the Church which waits for the Risen One and meets him in the group of disciples during his Easter appearances, had had a personal contact with her risen Son, so that she too could delight in the fullness of Paschal joy.
Present at Calvary on Good Friday (cf. Jn 19:25) and in the Upper Room on Pentecost (cf. Acts 1:14), the Blessed Virgin too was probably a privileged witness of Christ’s Resurrection, completing in this way her participation in all the essential moments of the Paschal mystery. Welcoming the risen Jesus, Mary is also a sign and an anticipation of humanity, which hopes to achieve its fulfillment through the resurrection of the dead.
In the Easter season, the Christian community addresses the Mother of the Lord and invites her to rejoice: “Regina Caeli, laetare. Alleluia!” “Queen of heaven, rejoice. Alleluia!” Thus it recalls Mary’s joy at Jesus’ Resurrection, prolonging in time the “rejoice” that the Angel addressed to her at the Annunciation, so that she might become a cause of “great joy” for all people.

The Octave of Easter and the Sunday of Divine Mercy
The celebration of Our Lord’s Resurrection continues in the Church for eight days, called the Octave of Easter. Each day of the Octave is ranked as a Solemnity in the Church’s liturgical calendar, the highest ranking of liturgical feasts. At Masses during the Octave of Easter, as on Sundays, the Gloria, is recited or sung. And at the end of each Mass of the Octave, the double Alleluia is sung at the dismissal.
The idea of an Octave of a great feast has its roots in the Old Testament.
There are many Jewish feasts that lasted for eight days, for example, the feast
of Passover and the feast of Tabernacles. In the Catholic Church, we celebrate
eight days of Christmas as well as eight days of Easter.
The Gospel readings at Masses during the Octave of Easter include passages from the Gospels that relate various appearances of the Risen Jesus. Reflecting on these Gospel texts is a wonderful way to prolong the celebration of Easter. Each day during the Octave, we proclaim in the Gospel Acclamation: This is the day the Lord has made; let us be glad and rejoice in it.
