8. Il-mara li nqabdet fl-adulterju
[Ġw:8:1] Ġesù telaq lejn l-Għolja taż-Żebbuġ. [Ġw:8:2] Imma l-għada qabel is-sebħ raġa' mar fit-tempju, u l-poplu kollu ġie ħdejh, u hu qagħad bilqiegħda jgħallimhom. [Ġw:8:3] Mbagħad il-kittieba u l-Fariżej ħadulu quddiemu waħda mara li kienet inqabdet fl-adulterju. Huma qegħduha fin-nofs [Ġw:8:4] u qalulu: "Mgħallem, din il-mara nqabdet fil-fatt fl-adulterju. [Ġw:8:5] Issa fil-Liġi tagħna Mosè ordnalna biex nisa bħal dawn inħaġġruhom. Int, imma, xi tgħid?" [Ġw:8:6] Dan qaluhulu biex iġarrbuh, ħalli jkollhom fuqiex jixluh. Imma Ġesù tbaxxa lejn l-art u beda jikteb b'sebgħu fit-trab. [Ġw:8:7] Billi dawk baqgħu jistaqsuh, qam dritt u qalilhom: "Min fostkom hu bla dnub jitfgħalha hu l-ewwel ġebla." [Ġw:8:8] U raġa' tbaxxa jikteb fit-trab. [Ġw:8:9] Kif semgħuh jgħid dan, qabdu u telqu wieħed wara l-ieħor, ibda mix-xjuħ, u Ġesù baqa' waħdu mal-mara, wieqfa fin-nofs. [Ġw:8:10] Qam dritt u qalilha: "Dawk fejnhom, mara? Ħadd minnhom ma kkundannak?" [Ġw:8:11] "Ħadd, Sinjur," qaltlu."Mela anqas jien ma nikkundannak," qalilha Ġesù. "Mur, u mil-llum 'il quddiem tidnibx iżjed."

Ġw 11, 1-45

Qari mill-Evanġelju skont San Ġwann

F’dak iż-żmien, [Ġw:11:1] kien hemm wieħed marid, Lazzru minn Betanja, ir-raħal ta' Marija u oħtha Marta. [Ġw:11:2] Marija kienet dik li dilket il-Mulej b'żejt ifuħ u xxuttatlu riġlejh b'xuxitha; u Lazzru, il-marid, kien ħuha. [Ġw:11:3] Iż-żewġ nisa bagħtu jgħidu lil Ġesù: "Mulej, ara, ħabibek marid." [Ġw:11:4] Meta sama' l-aħbar Ġesù qal: "Din m'hijiex marda tal-mewt, iżda hi għall-glorja ta' Alla, biex biha tingħata glorja lill-Iben ta' Alla."

[Ġw:11:5] Ġesù kien iħobbhom lil Marta u lil oħtha u lil Lazzru. [Ġw:11:6] Meta sama' li dan marad, baqa' jumejn oħra fejn kien, [Ġw:11:7] u mbagħad qal lid-dixxipli: "Ejjew nerġgħu mmorru l-Lhudija." [Ġw:11:8] Qalulu d-dixxipli: "Rabbi, il-Lhud għadhom kemm kienu qegħdin ifittxu li jħaġġruk, u int rieġa' sejjer hemm?" [Ġw:11:9] Weġibhom Ġesù: "M'hux tnax-il siegħa fiha l-ġurnata? Sakemm wieħed jimxi binhar, ma jitfixkilx, għax ikun qiegħed jara d-dawl ta' din id-dinja. [Ġw:11:10] Imma jekk jimxi billejl, jitfixkel, għax ma jkollux dawl." [Ġw:11:11] Qalilhom hekk, u mbagħad issokta jgħidilhom: "Ħabibna Lazzru rieqed; iżda ħa mmur u nqajjmu."

[Ġw:11:12] Qalulu d-dixxipli: "Mulej, jekk inhu rieqed, jiġifieri se jfiq." [Ġw:11:13] Iżda Ġesù kien tkellem mill-mewt tiegħu, u huma ħaduha li kien qalilhom fuq l-irqad ta' meta wieħed ikun bin-ngħas. [Ġw:11:14] Mbagħad qalilhom ċar u tond: "Lazzru miet. [Ġw:11:15] U jiena nifraħ minħabba fikom li ma kontx hemm, ħalli temmnu. Iżda ejjew immorru sa ħdejh." [Ġw:11:16] Tumas, mlaqqam it-Tewmi, qal lil sħabu d-dixxipli: "Immorru aħna wkoll ħa mmutu miegħu."

[Ġw:11:17] Meta wasal, Ġesù sab li Lazzru kien ġa ilu erbat ijiem fil-qabar. [Ġw:11:18] Betanja kienet qrib Ġerusalemm, xi ħmistax-il stadju 'l hemm minnha. [Ġw:11:19] Ħafna Lhud kienu ġew għand Marta u Marija biex ifarrġuhom minħabba ħuhom. [Ġw:11:20] Kif, mela, semgħet li kien ġej Ġesù, Marta ħarġet tilqgħu, iżda Marija baqgħet id-dar. [Ġw:11:21] Marta qalet lil Ġesù: "Mulej, kieku kont hawn, ħija ma kienx imut. [Ġw:11:22] Imma wkoll issa, jiena naf li kull ma int titlob lil Alla, Alla jagħtihulek." [Ġw:11:23] Ġesù qalilha: "Ħuk jerġa' jqum!" [Ġw:11:24] Qaltlu Marta: "Jiena naf li jerġa' jqum, fil-qawmien mill-imwiet fl-aħħar jum." [Ġw:11:25] Qalilha Ġesù: "Jien hu l-qawmien u l-ħajja. Kull min jemmen fija, ukoll jekk imut, jgħix; [Ġw:11:26] u kull min jgħix u jemmen fija, dan ma jmut qatt. Temmnu inti dan?" [Ġw:11:27] "Iva, Mulej," weġbitu, "Jiena nemmen li inti l-Messija, l-Iben ta' Alla, dak li ġie fid-dinja."

[Ġw:11:28] Kif qalet dan, marret issejjaħ lil oħtha Marija u minn taħt l-ilsien qaltilha: "L-Imgħallem hawn, u qiegħed isejjaħlek." [Ġw:11:29] Dik, malli semgħetha, qamet minnufih u marret ħdejh. [Ġw:11:30] Ġesù kien għadu ma daħalx fir-raħal, imma baqa' fejn kienet ġiet tiltaqa' miegħu Marta. [Ġw:11:31] Il-Lhud li kienu d-dar ma' Marija biex ifarrġuha, kif rawha tqum malajr u toħroġ, marru warajha, għax stħajjluha sejra lejn il-qabar biex toqgħod tibki hemm.

[Ġw:11:32] Meta Marija waslet fejn kien Ġesù u ratu nxteħtet f'riġlejh, tgħidlu: "Mulej, kieku kont hawn, ħija ma kienx imut." [Ġw:11:33] Ġesù, kif ra lilha tibki u l-Lhud, li ġew magħha, jibku wkoll, ħass ruħu mqanqal u tħawwad ħafna. [Ġw:11:34] "Fejn qegħedtuh?" staqsiehom. Huma weġbuh: "Mulej, ejja u ara." [Ġw:11:35] U Ġesù beka. [Ġw:11:36] Għalhekk il-Lhud qalu: "Ara kemm kien iħobbu!" [Ġw:11:37] Iżda xi wħud minnhom qalu: "Ma setax dan il-bniedem, li fetaħ għajnejn l-agħma, jagħmel ukoll li dan ma jmutx?"

[Ġw:11:38] Ġesù ħass ruħu mqanqal għal darb' oħra u resaq lejn il-qabar. Dan kien għar magħluq bi blata fuqu. [Ġw:11:39] Ġesù qal: "Neħħu l-blata." Marta, oħt il-mejjet, qaltlu: "Mulej, issa beda jrejjaħ; ġa ilu erbat ijiem mejjet." [Ġw:11:40] Qalilha Ġesù: "Ma għedtlikx li jekk inti temmen, tara l-glorja ta' Alla?" [Ġw:11:41] Mbagħad neħħew il-blata. Ġesù rafa' għajnejh 'il fuq u qal: "Missier, nroddlok ħajr li smajtni. [Ġw:11:42] Kont naf li inti dejjem tismagħni, imma għedt dan minħabba n-nies li hawn madwari, biex huma jemmnu li inti bgħattni." [Ġw:11:43] Kif qal hekk, għajjat b'leħen għoli: "Lazzru, oħroġ!" [Ġw:11:44] U dak li kien mejjet ħareġ, b'idejh u riġlejh infaxxati u b'maktur ma' wiċċu. Ġesù qalilhom: "Ħollulu l-faxex u ħalluh imur."

[Ġw:11:45] Ħafna mil-Lhud, li kienu ġew għand Marija u raw dak li għamel Ġesù, emmnu fih.

"Do you believe?" –John 11:26

In two weeks, everyone in the world who goes to Mass on Easter will be challenged to reject Satan, all his works, and all his empty promises. We reject Satan because we believe in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit guides us to all truth (Jn 16:13), including faith in "the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting." The last word in the great renewal of the baptismal promises is "the resurrection of the body and life everlasting."

In two weeks, Jesus is going to say to us as He said to Martha: "I am the Resurrection and the Life" (Jn 11:25). He will ask us: "Do you believe this?" (Jn 11:26) By God's grace, we will be able to answer: "Yes, Lord...I have come to believe that You are the Messiah, the Son of God" (Jn 11:27). If we believe Jesus is the Messiah and the Son of God, we believe He is the Resurrection and the Life, Who will open our graves (Ez 37:12), raise our bodies from the dead, and give us life everlasting.

Fix your eyes on the risen Son (see Heb 12:2). See Jesus dying on the cross, and rising from the dead. Jesus, Who raised Lazarus from the dead, will give us the faith to believe in Him, renew our baptismal promises, and thereby rise from the dead to life everlasting.

PRAYER: Father, whatever it takes, increase my faith greatly in the next two weeks.

PROMISE: "If the Spirit of Him Who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, then He Who raised Christ from the dead will bring your mortal bodies to life also, through His Spirit dwelling in you." –Rm 8:11

PRAISE: Praise You Jesus, the crucified Resurrection and the Life! You are "the Author of Life" (Acts 3:15). "All life, all holiness comes from You."

NOVEMBER 2024 - The Pope Video 11 - FOR THOSE WHO HAVE LOST A CHILD

The loss of a child may be the worst pain a father and mother can experience. There’s no word that could possibly describe such profound grief. Pope Francis asks us to join him in prayer this month precisely for those parents who have lost a child. In the Video produced by the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network that accompanies his prayer intention, Pope Francis invites us to listen in a particular way to those fathers and mothers who suffer this heartbreaking loss – to listen to them and be near them with love, just like Jesus when he cared for the most vulnerable. The Pope stresses how important it is that families support each other, with their faith which is a great pillar on which hope can be reborn. 🙏 “Let us pray that all parents who mourn the loss of a son or daughter find support in their community, and may receive peace of heart from the Spirit of Consolation.” "What can we say to parents who have lost a child? How can we console them? There are no words. You see, when one spouse loses the other, they are a widower or a widow. A child who loses a parent is an orphan. There’s a word for that. But when a parent loses a child, there’s no word. The pain is so great, that there’s no word. And it’s not natural to outlive your child. The pain caused by this loss is especially intense. Words of encouragement are at times banal or sentimental, they’re not helpful. Spoken with the best intention, of course, they can end up aggravating the wound. To offer comfort to these parents who have lost a child, we need to listen to them, to be close to them with love, to care responsibly for the pain they feel, imitating how Jesus Christ consoled those who were afflicted. And those parents who are sustained by their faith can certainly find comfort in other families who, by suffering such a terrible tragedy as this, have been reborn in hope.
