Four seeds we should sow in our families – Bishop Galea-Curmi - Erba’ xtieli li għandna nkabbru fil-familja

Homily during Holy Mass on the Feast of the Holy Family
Erba' xtieli li għandna nkabbru fil-familja Il-Ħadd, 26 ta' Diċembru 2021
Omelija waqt il-Quddiesa fil-Festa tal-Familja Mqaddsa
F’liema żmien fl-istorja tal-umanità l-ħajja tal-familja kienet faċli? Naħseb li jekk immorru lura fl-istorja, nindunaw li qatt ma kienet faċli l-ħajja tal-familja. Anke meta llum niċċelebraw il-Familja Mqaddsa ta’ Ġesù, Marija u Ġużeppi, nindunaw li l-ħajja tal-familja tagħhom ma kinitx faċli.
Familja li tgħallimna
Il-qari mill-Kelma ta’ Alla llum jagħtina idea ta’ dan, meta Ġesù baqa’ t-Tempju, u Marija u Ġużeppi marru jfittxuh. Imbagħad qalulu: “Ibni, dan għaliex għamiltilna hekk? …konna qegħdin infittxuk b’qalbna maqsuma!” u hu jgħidilhom: “Ma tafux li jiena għandi nkun f’dak li hu ta’ missieri?” L-Evanġelju jgħid: “kliemu ma fehmuhx”. Kien hemm mumenti, anke fil-Familja Mqaddsa, meta ma setgħux jifhmu x’qed jiġri.
Mill-ftit li nafu fuq il-Familja Mqaddsa, nafu li kienet familja li għaddiet minn żmien diffiċli, rat ħafna ma’ wiċċha, ħafna tbatija: meta t-tifel Ġesù wasal biex jitwieled, ma kellux fejn jitwieled; kienu refuġjati għal xi żmien, mhux bid-dgħajsa imma aktarx bil-ħmara; għaddew minn żmien ta’ tbatija minn post għall-ieħor, u nistgħu nsemmu ħafna affarijiet, fejn nindunaw li l-ħajja ta’ din il-familja ma kinitx faċli.
Imma meta nħarsu lejha, u nirriflettu fuq il-ħajja ta’ Ġesù, Marija u Ġużeppi, nindunaw li għandna ħafna għajnuna għall-ħajja tagħna ta’ kuljum. F’din il-familja naraw iż-żerriegħa li għandek tiżra’ fil-ħajja tal-familja, ix-xtieli li trid tkabbar fil-ħajja tal-familja, biex il-familja tista timxi ’l quddiem, qalb id-diffikultajiet u l-problemi tal-ħajja.
Nixtieq insemmi erba’ żerrigħat li rridu niżirgħu, xtieli li rridu nkabbru fil-ħajja tal-familja llum. Huma xtieli li ma taħbihomx mit-tfal, anzi tgħidilhom biex jgħożżuhom, biex jarawhom jikbru. Huma xtieli li jsaħħu u mhux jeqirdu l-ħajja tal-familja.
L-għożża tal-ħajja
L-ewwel nett l-għożża tal-ħajja. Meta nħarsu lejn Marija u Ġużeppi, narawhom dejjem jipproteġu l-ħajja sa mill-ewwel mument tagħha, jiġifieri qabel twieled Ġesù. Iħarsu l-ħajja tiegħu sa mit-tnissil tagħha. Anke f’mumenti oħra, kellhom jaħarbu minn post għal ieħor biex iħarsu l-ħajja ta’ binhom. U jinkwetaw meta ma jsibuhx, u jfittxuh sakemm isibuh, kif rajniehom fl-Evanġelju tal-lum, għax għalihom il-ħajja ta’ binhom kienet għażiża.
Dan hu messaġġ importanti għalina, għax l-għożża tal-ħajja trid tibda mill-ħajja tal-familja. Hemmhekk trid tinżera’ ż-żerriegħa u nkabbru x-xitla li tgħinna biex ngħożżu l-ħajja, u biex nagħżlu dak kollu li jsaħħaħ il-ħajja u nwarrbu dak kollu li jirrovina l-ħajja.
Il-fiduċja f’Alla
It-tieni xitla: il-fiduċja f’Alla. Kull meta naraw lil Marija u Ġużeppi, narawhom f’mumenti meta jridu jagħmlu din l-għażla: l-għażla biex jimxu skont dak li jrid minnhom Alla. Anke meta huma kellhom pjanijiet differenti, u kienu jaħsbuha differenti, fittxew dak li jrid Alla, u indunaw kemm kien ta’ ġid li mxew ma’ dak li Alla ried minnhom.
Għandna bżonn ħafna nisimgħu lil xulxin fil-ħajja tal-familja, li nisimgħu bis-serjetà, b’widnejn miftuħa u b’qalb miftuħa, li nagħtu attenzjoni lil xulxin u nsaħħu l-ambjent ta’ djalogu.
Naraw lil Ġużeppi ma jistax jifhem x’qed isir f’Marija, u Marija ma tistax tifhem kif se ssir Omm Ġesù, u kull darba ħarsu lejn dak li ried Alla u mxew miegħu. Hemm sabu l-forza u l-qawwa għal ħajjithom. Din hi żerriegħa importanti fil-ħajja tal-familja, biex tista’ tikber u tissaħħaħ il-fidi f’Alla, il-fiduċja fil-kelma tiegħu, li dejjem tħarisna u tmexxina.
Id-djalogu
It-tielet xitla: fil-familja ta’ Ġesù, Marija u Ġużeppi, naraw jinbena l-ambjent ta’ djalogu. L-ewwel ħaġa f’dan id-djalogu: li jisimgħu lil xulxin. Għandna l-eżempju sabiħ ta’ San Ġużepp, fejn fl-Evanġelju ma nsibux kelma li qal, imma dejjem insibuh jisma’. Hekk insibu wkoll lil Marija fil-bidu nett: tisma’. Huma żergħu ż-żerriegħa tas-smigħ fil-familja tagħhom; fil-fatt, meta lil Ġesù sabuh fit-tempju, l-Evanġelju jgħid li sabuh f’nofs l-għalliema “jismagħhom u jistaqsihom”. L-ewwel pass fid-djalogu hu li tisma’; imbagħad li titkellem bl-akbar sinċerità tal-qalb.
Għandna bżonn ħafna nisimgħu lil xulxin fil-ħajja tal-familja, li nisimgħu bis-serjetà, b’widnejn miftuħa u b’qalb miftuħa, li nagħtu attenzjoni lil xulxin u nsaħħu l-ambjent ta’ djalogu.
L-imħabba konkreta
Ir-raba’ xitla: l-imħabba, li hi r-ruħ ta’ din il-familja, u li tintwera fil-ħajja konkreta, fl-attenzjoni u fis-sensittività li juru lil xulxin. Tolqtok ħafna f’Marija u f’Ġużeppi kif dejjem jaħsbu f’xulxin u f’binhom. L-ewwel interess tagħhom mhuwiex x’jaqbel lilhom, l-interessi tagħhom personali, imma x’inhu l-aħjar għal xulxin.
Marija u Ġużeppi huma dawk li żergħu din iż-żerriegħa tal-imħabba, li turi ruħha b’mod konkret fil-ħajja tagħhom, u fil-fedeltà sħiħa tagħhom. Huma eżempju sabiħ ħafna għalina kif l-imħabba hi r-ruħ tal-familja – l-imħabba li turi ruħha fl-affarijiet iż-żgħar u ordinarji tal-ħajja ta’ kuljum.
Nixtieq nitlob lill-Familja Mqaddsa biex nieħdu l-eżempju tagħha u fil-familja dejjem niżirgħu ż-żerrigħat u nkabbru x-xtieli: tal-għożża tal-ħajja, tal-fiduċja f’Alla, tad-djalogu, u tal-imħabba li turi ruħha b’mod konkret. Huma dawn li għandna naħdmu biex niżirgħu fil-ħajja tal-familja. Lit-tfal ngħidulhom: ħarsu lejn dawn, indukrawhom, għożżu dawn il-valuri. Dawn jgħinukom tassew biex timxu ’l quddiem u tikbru fil-ħajja tagħkom.
Nitolbu għall-familji tagħna kollha. Nitolbu wkoll illum għal dawk il-familji li għaddejjin minn żmien diffiċli, minn ħafna taħbit u diffikultajiet, biex fina jsibu dejjem appoġġ, solidarjetà u għajnuna, u qatt kliem li jweġġa’ u li iktar iniżżilhom ’l isfel flok jgħinhom jitilgħu ’l fuq qalb id-diffikultajiet tal-ħajja. Nitolbu biex il-Familja Mqaddsa tkompli tgħinna ħalli nieħdu l-eżempju tagħha u nsaħħu dejjem il-ħajja tal-familja, kif irid Alla minna llum.

GREAT THINGS - From the album ADVENT - Emu Music
God of holy wonders, great things you have done
Blessings in abundance, born to us a Son
Offspring of a virgin, to our world He came
Born to lift our burdens, come to earth to reign
Jesus is His name
O my soul magnifies the Lord
And my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour
My soul magnifies the Lord
For He who is mighty has done great things for me
David's great descendant, Mary's blessed child
Lived to raise the humble, died to reconcile
Mercy upon mercy, freeing us from shame
By His precious life-blood, sinners He reclaims
Blessed be His name
O my soul magnifies the Lord
And my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour
My soul magnifies the Lord
For He who is mighty has done great things for me
Jesus Christ, You took on flesh and blood
So that in You we might be born of God
Jesus Christ, You took on flesh and blood
So that in You we might be born of God
Jesus Christ, You took on flesh and blood
So that in You we might be born of God
Jesus Christ, You took on flesh and blood
So that in You we might be born of God

33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time - World Day of the Poor -- The Healing Embrace of God, through Charity - Pope Francis
13 Nov 2022
On the World Day of the Poor, Pope Francis encouraged Christians to not
be brought down by the “doom and gloom” of the world, but to witness to the joy
of the Gospel through service to those in need.
“Let us take to heart the clear and unmistakable summons in the Gospel not to be led astray. Let us not listen to prophets of doom,” the pope said at Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica Nov. 13.
“Instead, let us bear witness,” he said. “Let us light candles of hope in the midst of darkness. Amid dramatic situations, let us seize opportunities to bear witness to the Gospel of joy and to build a more fraternal world, at least a little more fraternal. Let us commit ourselves courageously to justice, the rule of law and peace, and stand at the side of the weakest.”
Pope Francis, assisted by Archbishop Rino Fisichella, celebrated Mass for the 6th annual World Day of the Poor, which was established at the conclusion of the Year of Mercy.
The poor were special guests at the Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica. The day was also marked by a number of initiatives to aid those in need, including a free meal and medical care.
He pointed to the day’s Gospel, Luke 21:5-19, in which Jesus says to not be deceived by false prophets.
“It is not by chance that Jesus’ second exhortation, after ‘do not be led astray,’ is positive,” the pope said. “He says: ‘This will give you an opportunity to testify.’”
“I want to emphasize this fine word: opportunity,” Francis said. “It means having the chance to do something good, starting from our situation in life, even when it is not ideal.”
“A disciple of the Lord,” he added, “should not yield to resignation or give in to discouragement, even in the most difficult situations, for our God is the God of resurrection and hope, who always raises up: with him we can lift up our gaze and begin anew.”
Pope Francis said Christians, when encountering trials, should ask
themselves: “What is the Lord saying to us through this moment of crisis?”
The poor pay the heaviest price, he said, issuing a warning about hardened hearts.
