It-twelid ta' Ġesù Kristu
[Lq:2:1]
F'dik il-ħabta Ċesari Awgustu ħareġ digriet biex isir ċensiment fid-dinja
kollha. [Lq:2:2] Dan kien l-ewwel ċensiment li sar meta Kirinu kien
gvernatur tas-Sirja. [Lq:2:3] U kulħadd mar biex jinkiteb, kull wieħed
fil-belt tiegħu. [Lq:2:4] Ġużeppi wkoll mar mill-Galilija, mill-belt ta'
Nazaret, u tala' l-Lhudija, fil-belt ta' David jisimha Betlehem - għax hu kien
mid-dar u l-familja ta' David - [Lq:2:5] biex jinkiteb flimkien ma'
Marija l-għarusa tiegħu, li kienet tqila. [Lq:2:6] Ġara li, meta kienu
hemm, Marija għalqilha ż-żmien biex teħles, [Lq:2:7] u wildet l-ewwel
iben tagħha, fisqietu u medditu f'maxtura, għax ma kienx hemm post għalihom
fil-lukanda.
Ir-rgħajja
u l-anġli
[Lq:2:8]
F'dawk l-inħawi kien hemm xi rgħajja fir-raba', għassa mal-merħla tagħhom
billejl. [Lq:2:9] U dehrilhom anġlu tal-Mulej, il-glorja tal-Mulej
iddiet madwarhom, u qabadhom biża' kbir. [Lq:2:10] Iżda l-anġlu
qalilhom: "Tibżgħux, għax araw, qiegħed inħabbrilkom ferħ kbir, ferħ li se
jkun għall-poplu kollu. [Lq:2:11] Illum, fil-belt ta' David, twildilkom
Salvatur, li hu l-Messija, il-Mulej. [Lq:2:12] U bħala sinjal ikollkom
dan; issibu tarbija mfisqija u mimduda f'maxtura." [Lq:2:13]
F'daqqa waħda ngħaqdu ma' l-anġlu għadd kbir ta' qtajja' tas-sema, ifaħħru lil
Alla u jgħidu:
[Lq:2:14] "Glorja lil Alla fl-ogħla tas-smewwiet,
u sliem fl-art
lill-bnedmin li jogħġbu lilu!"
[Lq:2:15]
Meta mbagħad l-anġli ħallewhom u telgħu s-sema, ir-rgħajja bdew jgħidu lil
xulxin: "Ejjew immorru Betlehem ħa naraw x'ġara kif għarrafna
l-Mulej." [Lq:2:16] Marru mela jgħaġġlu, u sabu lil Marija u 'l Ġużeppi,
bit-tarbija mimduda f'maxtura. [Lq:2:17] Kif raw dan, bdew jgħarrfu
b'kull ma kien intqal lilhom dwar dik it-tarbija, [Lq:2:18] u kull min
semagħhom baqa' mistagħġeb b'dak li qalulhom ir-rgħajja. [Lq:2:19]
Marija, min-naħa tagħha, baqgħet tgħożż f'qalbha dawn il-ħwejjeġ kollha u
taħseb fuqhom bejnha u bejn ruħha. [Lq:2:20] Ir-rgħajja mbagħad reġgħu
lura, isebbħu u jfaħħru lil Alla għal kull ma kienu raw u semgħu, kif l-anġlu
kien qalilhom.
Luke 2:1-20 New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition (NRSVCE)
The Birth of Jesus
2 In those days a decree went out from Emperor Augustus that all the world should be registered. 2 This was the first registration and was taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria. 3 All went to their own towns to be registered. 4 Joseph also went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem, because he was descended from the house and family of David. 5 He went to be registered with Mary, to whom he was engaged and who was expecting a child. 6 While they were there, the time came for her to deliver her child. 7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.
The Shepherds and the Angels
8 In that region there were shepherds living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for see—I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: 11 to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign for you: you will find a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying,
14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favors!”
15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go now to Bethlehem and see this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us.” 16 So they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the child lying in the manger. 17 When they saw this, they made known what had been told them about this child; 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds told them. 19 But Mary treasured all these words and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.
