Readings at Mass
(Liturgical Colour: White )

First reading
Ecclesiasticus  (SIRAK)  44:1,10-15

Let us praise illustrious men,
  our ancestors in their successive generations.
Here is a list of generous men
  whose good works have not been forgotten.
In their descendants there remains
  a rich inheritance born of them.
Their descendants stand by the covenants
  and, thanks to them, so do their children’s children.
Their offspring will last for ever,
  their glory will not fade.
Their bodies have been buried in peace,
  and their name lives on for all generations.
The peoples will proclaim their wisdom,
  the assembly will celebrate their praises.

Responsorial Psalm
Psalm 131:11,13-14,17-18

The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David.
The Lord swore an oath to David;
  he will not go back on this word:
‘A son, the fruit of your body,
  will I set upon your throne.’
The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David.

For the Lord has chosen Zion;
  he has desired it for his dwelling:
‘This is my resting-place for ever;
  here have I chosen to live.
The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David.

‘There David’s stock will flower;
  I will prepare a lamp for my anointed.
I will cover his enemies with shame
  but on him my crown shall shine.’
The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David.

Gospel Acclamation
(Lk2:25)

Alleluia, alleluia!
They looked forward to Israel’s comforting
and the Holy Spirit rested upon them.
Alleluia!

Gospel
Matthew 13:16-17

Happy are your eyes because they see, your ears because they hear! I tell you solemnly, many prophets and holy men longed to see what you see, and never saw it; to hear what you hear, and never heard it.

[Mt:13:16] "Intom, iżda, henjin għajnejkom, għax qegħdin jaraw; henjin widnejkom, għax qegħdin jisimgħu. [Mt:13:17] Tassew, ngħidilkom, li bosta profeti u nies ġusti xtaqu jaraw dak li qegħdin taraw intom u ma rawhx, u jisimgħu dak li qegħdin tisimgħu intom u ma semgħuhx!

St. Anne prefigured in Anna (Hannah), the mother of the Prophet Samuel - Published on Jul 26, 2014

Sermon on the Feast of St Ann where we look at the Old Testament type of her found in the mother of Samuel, the prophet.

Sermons on how to be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

"Who shall find a valiant woman? (Proverbs 31:10)"

The example of Saint Anne shows us that prayer and sacrifice is the path to make ourselves "worthy of the promises of Christ."

Feast of St Anne (26-July) - Published on Jul 26, 2012

St Anne Merited to Bear the Mother of God - Published on Jul 26, 2016How blessed is the mother of the Immaculate Conception, the Blessed Virgin Mary. This privilege is not granted to just anyone. To receive such a gift, the fulfillment of millennia old promises, one has to be made worthy. How is one made worthy? Through prayer, trial and tribulation.

St Anne: the Miraculous Discovery of her relics - Published on Jun 8, 2015
Sermon on the incredible discovery of her relics. How John, a boy deaf, mute and blind from birth, led the Emperor Charlemagne into the long-lost underground crypt in southern France where the relics of St. Ann, mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary, were buried. The miraculous manner in which these precious relics had arrived in southern France, and the great saints who had brought them there. How God uses the weak things of the world to confound the wise, and how He can do great things with us if we let Him.
