Antiphon
Cf. Ps 17 (16): 6, 8

To you I call; for you will surely heed me, O God;
turn your ear to me; hear my words.
Guard me as the apple of your eye;
in the shadow of your wings protect me.

Collect
Almighty ever-living God,
grant that we may always conform our will to yours
and serve your majesty in sincerity of heart.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

Readings

First Reading
Eph 4:1-6
There is one Body, one Lord, one faith, one baptism.
A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Ephesians

Brothers and sisters:
I, a prisoner for the Lord,
   urge you to live in a manner worthy of the call you have received,
   with all humility and gentleness, with patience,
   bearing with one another through love,
   striving to preserve the unity of the spirit
   through the bond of peace;
   one Body and one Spirit,
   as you were also called to the one hope of your call;
   one Lord, one faith, one baptism;
   one God and Father of all,
   who is over all and through all and in all.

Responsorial Psalm
Ps 24:1-2, 3-4ab, 5-6
R. Lord, this is the people that longs to see your face.

The LORD’s are the earth and its fullness;
   the world and those who dwell in it.
For he founded it upon the seas
   and established it upon the rivers.

R. Lord, this is the people that longs to see your face.

Who can ascend the mountain of the LORD?
   or who may stand in his holy place?
He whose hands are sinless, whose heart is clean,
   who desires not what is vain.

R. Lord, this is the people that longs to see your face.

He shall receive a blessing from the LORD,
   a reward from God his savior.
Such is the race that seeks for him,
   that seeks the face of the God of Jacob.

R. Lord, this is the people that longs to see your face.

Gospel Acclamation
See Mt 11:25
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Blessed are you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth;
you have revealed to little ones the mysteries of the Kingdom.

R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Lk 12:54-59 -- Interpreting the Times - Iż-żmien jgħallem

Iż-żmien jgħallem
(Mt 16, 2-3)

[Lq:12:54] Lin-nies qalilhom ukoll: "Meta taraw sħaba tielgħa mill-punent, malajr tgħidu li tkun ġejja x-xita; u hekk jiġri. [Lq:12:55] U meta jonfoħ ir-riħ isfel, tgħidu li sħana se tagħmel; u tagħmel tassew. [Lq:12:56] Uċuħ b'oħra, tafu taqraw wiċċ is-sema, u wiċċ l-art ukoll; mela ż-żmien ta' issa kif ma tafux tfissruh?"
Irranġa ma' min jixlik
(Mt 5, 25-26)

[Lq:12:57] "U għala ma tiġġudikawx intom stess x'inhu s-sewwa? [Lq:12:58] Jekk xi ħadd ikun se jtellgħek il-qorti, int u sejjer miegħu quddiem il-maġistrat, ħabrek biex tirranġa miegħu kif tkunu għadkom fit-triq, li ma jmurx ikaxkrek quddiem l-imħallef, u l-imħallef jagħtik f'idejn l-esekutur tas-sentenza, u dan imbagħad jitfgħek il-ħabs; [Lq:12:59] għax kif ngħidlek jien, ma toħroġx minn hemm ġew qabel ma tkun ħallast sa l-inqas ħabba."

Gospel
Lk 12:54-59
You know how to interpret the apperance of the earth and sky; why do you not know how to interpret the present time?
croce_vangelo.pngA reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke
Jesus said to the crowds,
“When you see a cloud rising in the west
   you say immediately that it is going to rain–and so it does;
   and when you notice that the wind is blowing from the south
   you say that it is going to be hot–and so it is.
You hypocrites!
You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky;
   why do you not know how to interpret the present time?

“Why do you not judge for yourselves what is right?
If you are to go with your opponent before a magistrate,
   make an effort to settle the matter on the way;
   otherwise your opponent will turn you over to the judge,
   and the judge hand you over to the constable,
   and the constable throw you into prison.
I say to you, you will not be released
   until you have paid the last penny.”

At the end of the Gospel, the Deacon, or the Priest, acclaims:

The Gospel of the Lord.

All reply:

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Then he kisses the book, saying quietly:

Through the words of the Gospel
may our sins be wiped away.

Prayer over the Offerings
Grant us, Lord, we pray,
a sincere respect for your gifts,
that, through the purifying action of your grace,
we may be cleansed by the very mysteries we serve.
Through Christ our Lord.

Antiphon and Prayer after Communion

Antiphon
Cf. Ps 33 (32): 18-19

Behold, the eyes of the Lord
are on those who fear him,
who hope in his merciful love,
to rescue their souls from death,
to keep them alive in famine.

Or: Mk 10: 45

The Son of Man has come
to give his life as a ransom for many.

Prayer after Communion
Grant, O Lord, we pray,
that, benefiting from participation in heavenly things,
we may be helped by what you give in this present age
and prepared for the gifts that are eternal.
Through Christ our Lord.

AMEN !
